Mon Vieil Ami




Update: A great friend of ours also recommended this restaurant as one of his favorites in Paris, and he is one of the toughest food critics I know. We were able to secure reservations for dinner and had an amazing meal. We did notify them of our dietary preferences at the time we made our reservations and they were happy to accommodate. In fact, the menu, while small, was perfectly designed for a variety of dietary needs. The tiny dining room is exactly what one would imagine as an authentic Parisian restaurant. The location on the Ile St. Louis brought us to an area of the city we had only briefly explored, an area that feels like its own French village within the enormity that is Paris. Mon Vieil Ami is a relaxing, wonderful, and special way to spend an evening in Paris.


I came across reviews of this restaurant while reading a review of my favorite restaurant in Barcelona. While there is not a website with a posted menu, their Facebook page describes their cuisine as French, and Vegetarian. This is not to be mistaken as a vegetarian restaurant, they still serve things such as Boar’s Head Stew, however, there are many vegetarian options.

The chef, Antoine Westermann, earned three stars at his restaurant Le Buerehiesel in Strasbourg. He now has two restaurants in Paris. Mon Vieil Ami is located on Ile St. Louis and has a more contemporary design than many other Parisian restaurants. The menu focuses on seasonal veggies and traditional meats. The selection below is only a seasonal menu. Expect the menu to vary – but always expect many great options.

  • Shredded Granny Smith Apple and red cabbage salad with toasted sesame seeds
  • Potatoes and Salad with sherry vinegar
  • Julienne vegetables & noodles, fricassee of mushrooms & poached egg
  • Seared fillet of red mullet with leeks
  • Poached cod with fennel, pumpkin, and candied ginger
  • Seasonal vegetables in risotto with roasted scallops
